A Marsden Church Worker
A prominent worker in connection with Marsden Parish Church, Pte. Eric Bumford, the twenty-two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bumford, of West Leigh, Reddisher Road, Marsden, is reported to be “missing and presumed killed.”
News to this effect was contained in a letter received on Tuesday by Mr. and Mrs. Bumford from the commanding officer of their son’s unit.
Private Bumford, who, before joining the Army, was employed at the Marsden Co-operative Society, has been a server and sidesman at Marsden Parish Church and is a former member of the choir. His father is secretary of the Parochial Church Council, president of the church tennis club and a member of the operatic society.
