- born 14 May 1919 (registered Q2 1919 Huddersfield)
- son of Joe Eli Dyson & Florence Mabel (née Wright) of 29 Brook Terrace, Slaithwaite
- enlisted 3 June 1939, lived 27 Brook Terrace, Slaithwaite
- captured 17 May 1940 at Lovvin, Belgium
- PoW held initially at Stalag XX-A(13) and Stalag XX-A (2), born Toruń, Germany, then forced to work Toruń (1940), doing road repairs (Lützen 1941), sugar factory (Nackel 1942) and on a building site (Graudenz 1943), he made two unsuccessful escape attempts (PoW questionnaire: “2 UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPS. BAIRSEE 6-7-43 BREAKING OPEN DOOR LEADING TO ATTIC. LOWERING BY ROPE. GEORGE BRADSHAW. PETER HALL. PUNISHMENT CAMP. BAIRSEE 19-9-43 BREAKING MAIN DOOR OPEN. JOHN MACDONALD. PUNISHMENT CAMP.”)

Slaithwaite Guardsman
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Dyson, 29, Brook Terrace, Slaithwaite, have received information that their son, Guardsman Jack Dyson, is missing. Guardsman Dyson, who is twenty-one years of age, joined the Coldstream Guards in June of last year. He was a scholar at West Slaithwaite School and before entering the Army he worked at the Globe Worsted Company, Slaithwaite. His elder brother, Frank, is at present serving with the R.A.F.

Long List of Missing
Official notification of casualties to Huddersfield and district men in the Forces makes this week an unusually long list.
The killed, happily, are few, but there are a large number reported missing. One man previously reported missing, Guardsman Jack Dyson, of Slaithwaite, was included this week in a list of prisoners of war given in a German wireless broadcast.
Slaithwaite Man Who Was Reported Missing
The name of Guardsman Jack Dyson, reported by us on June 25 to be missing, was given on the German wireless on Tuesday night in the latest list of prisoners of war.
Guardsman Dyson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Dyson, 29, Brook Terrace, Slaithwaite. He is twenty-one years of age, and joined the Coldstream Guards in June of last year. He was a scholar at West Slaithwaite School, and before entering the Army he worked at the Globe Worsted Company, Slaithwaite. His elder brother, Frank, is at present serving with the R.A.F.
