Huddersfield Examiner (13/Jul/1940):
NEWS OF MEN IN THE FORCES
THESE ARE MISSING
Two Denby Dale Brothers
Privates Fred and Jack Fisher, sons of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Fisher, 8, Leah Hall Crescent, Denby Dale, joined the Army as bandsmen in March this year. They went abroad in May.
Private Fred Fisher is twenty-four and his brother Jack twenty. They attended Denby Dale Council School as boys. Fred worked for ten years after leaving school for Messrs. J. Kitson and Sons, Ltd., Denby Dale, latterly as a firer, but just before joining the Army he was employed as a quarryman at the Sovereign Stone Quarries, Shepley. Jack was employed as a feeder by Messrs. Charles Moon’s Successors, Ltd., yarn spinners, Stoney Bank Mills, Newmill. He was married only a fortnight before going abroad. His wife lives at Hill Top, Shelley.
Both brothers were cornetists in the Denby Silver Prize Band for many years. Fred was a member of the Denby Dale and Ingbirchworth Working Men’s Clubs, and played in the billiards and darts teams of the clubs.
The brothers belong to a family of six sons and six daughters. Two of their sisters are members of the Denby Dale branch of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. A sixteen-year-old brother is an A.R.P. messenger. The father served four years in the last war.
