“Acre Top” is a name I’ve come across but not been able to pinpoint.
The Queen Inn was reportedly at Acre Top and there are also references to Acre Top in the Manor of Golcar: Copy of the Award Made in the Year 1823.
There’s a newspaper reference in 1877 to a footpath running from Acre Top to Ley Moor which is now marked on Google Maps as “Golcar Lilly Way”, so that seem to place it in the vicinity of Acre House. There’s a property just to the west of Acre House which is shown on old maps as being divided into 4 households (2×2 layout), so possibly those were the small cottages?
