Couple Celebrate Fiftieth Anniversary
A couple who have lived in Prim-rose Hill for most of their married life celebrated their golden wedding yesterday.
Mr Wilson Garside and his wife, Louisa, of 15 Lawton Street, Primrose Hill, have lived at their present home for seven years, after moving from the house next door, where they lived for 40 years.
They were married at St Patrick’s Church, Huddersfield, and now have three daughters, two sons and eight grandchildren.
They held a party for close friends and relatives at Primrose Hill Liberal Club, where Mr Garside is a member. He is also a life member of Primrose Hill Working Men’s Club and a member of Primrose Hill Cricket Club.
Mr Garside (69) worked 24 years at an ironmongers and later for 16 years at Taylor and Littlewood, of Newsome Mills, before he retired. During the war he served in the Royal Army Service Corps in Yugoslavia and spent four years as a prisoner of war.
Mrs Garside (67) spent several years as a barmaid at the Boot and Shoe, now the Shoehorn, before moving into the textile industry. She worked as a spinner at Newsome Mills for 26 years.
The couple’s interests include watching sports on television.
