Meltham Man Killed in Action

News has been received that Private Frank Brearley, whose wife and child live at 46 Golcar Brow, Meltham, has been killed in action while serving with the Forces in the Middle East. Pte. Brearley was twenty-five years of age. He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Brearley, of Heys Farm, Helme, Meltham, and was called to the colours in March, 1940, up to which time he was employed at Albion Mills, Meltham. He was a native of Oxspring, near Penistone, and was educated at Oxspring Council School. He went to live at Meltham in 1933. Two of his brothers are serving with the Forces.

BREARLEY — In affectionate remembrance of a dear husband and father, Frank. who was killed in action March 15, 1941.
Kind were his ways, his friendship true
Loved and respected by all he knew;
To a happy life came a sudden end.
He died as he lived – everyone’s friend.
