I was born about six months after this raid just 3 houses up Hall Bower Lane from the field where the bombs dropped. Our house was protected by the two semis between us and the field. My Dad had built an Anderson shelter in the back garden, photo attached with me in the pram. The shelter is my only memory of wartime. We used to have our milk delivered every day from the dairy farm in the village. It was delivered by horse and cart in big churns and we used to take jugs to collect it in. The only metalled road into the village at the time was Ladybower Lane from Berry Brow. The cottages referred to in your article were occupied for many years after the war but have since been demolished.
