In the early part of the c19 the Shaws were Baptist. At that time Baptists were considered ‘dissenters’ along with Methodists and other non- Conformists, by the established church. They were not allowed to study at any university.
This is the detail from grave 36 in Lockwood Baptist graveyard:
Henry, son of William and Mary Shaw of Lockwood, who departed this life on February 15th 1819 aged 7 months.
Also of Ann, wife of the above named William Shaw, who departed this life at Woodfield House on September 10th 1838, aged 44 years.
Also of the above William Shaw, of Woodfield House who departed this life on September 23rd 1840 aged 47 years.
