Beautiful big house. I was so fascinated with it. I loved trespassing as a kid but never actually got inside! My gran said she and her mate got inside in the 1930s when it was abandoned and the original staircase was huge. And the bath was really big with feet. I loved the driveway up to the house..it was overgrown and had the old gas lamps lining it. I think it belonged to one of the big mill owners like Mallinsons.

Hi Julie. Many thanks for commenting! You’re right — woollen manufacturer Eli Mallinson (aged 28) is recorded living there in 1871 Census and was still residing there when he died in 1909. Eli’s father George, also a woollen manufacturer, had lived at Hoyle House, Linthwaite.
