As far as I’m aware, there’s only been one book published about the local fire bridge:
- The History of the Huddersfield Fire Brigade (1999) by Chris Smith
If you live locally, once Kirklees Libraries are back to normal opening, they have a few copies for reference or loan, otherwise you might be able to find a second hand copy for sale on Amazon or eBay. It’s a good book with a lot of photographs and information about the major fires that they tackled.
I think Herbert might be listed in the 1937 and 1956 Huddersfield street directories.
