Thanks for posting that! I’m going to look at the Perseverance and Victoria again, as I’ve just spotted that the 1900 street directory has separate entries for:
- 72 Upperhead Row – Perseverance Inn (Walter Edward Capper)
- 80 Upperhead Row – Victoria Inn (Benjamin Walker)
Neither is marked on the detailed 1890 O.S. Town Plan, which suggests they were beerhouses rather than fully-licensed premises, but I’ll check the Licence Register to confirm what licenses were held. Also, the naming of the yards on the O.S. map is different to the yard names in the street directories, which makes pinpointing both premises tricky. However, both were on the western side of Upperhead Row and the Perseverance was to the north of the Victoria.
