My great-great grandfather’s second wife Emma Mills (nee Holt) was the Inn Keeper of the Palace Hotel, 4 Princess Street between about 1888 and 1894 when she moved to the Spotted Cow in Northgate. The West Riding Petty Sessions, Huddersfield Borough Magistrates Court, Register of Licences lists the following keepers and the dates they were granted licences: Fred Rowley 14th February 1894, Thomas Sykes 13th February 1895, John Thornber 15th May 1895, William Heap 17th February 1897, Ben Brierley 13th July 1898.
The pub was owned by Messer’s Bentley and Shaw.
