Huddersfield Signalman Posted Missing
A Huddersfield soldier, Signalman John Foster, of the Royal Corps of Signals, who took part in the heroic defence of Calais, has been posted as missing.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Foster, of 12, Violet Street, Turnbridge, Huddersfield, had not heard of him for several weeks and they have now received notification that he has been posted as missing.
Signalman Foster, who was twenty-four years of age, was born in Huddersfield and attended the Parish Church school. On leaving school he went to work at the Hygienic Stove Company until he joined the Army in January, 1939.
His younger brother, Sapper James Foster, is attached to a searchlight battalion, and his father served throughout the last war with the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment in which he attained the rank of company sergeant-major.

Signalman John Foster, of Turnbridge
Signalman John Foster has written to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Foster, 12, Viaduct Street, Turnbridge, to say that he is a prisoner of war in Germany and that he is well. He was reported missing on June 5.
Signalman Foster is twenty-four years of age and unmarried. He enlisted in the Royal Corps of Signals in January last year. In civil life he was employed by the Hygienic Stove Co., Ltd., St. Thomas’s Road. As a boy he attended the Huddersfield Parish Church School.
