Grange Moor Man Home From Flanders
Sapper Armitage Firth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Firth, of Ivy Cottage, Grange Moor, has arrived home on leave this week after a hectic time in Flanders and on the Dunkirk beaches. Apart from blistered feet he has come through his ordeal very well, being helped, no doubt, by being able to drive — for he and his pals commandeered motor-cycles and cars in various parts of Flanders on their way to the coast.
Sapper Firth, whose father has for many years been a gas fitter for the Dewsbury Corporation, attained his twenty-first birthday on the boat as he was returning from Flanders. He joined the Militia last October. When he was called up he was serving an apprenticeship as a motor body builder with the firm of Messrs. Rippon Bros., of Huddersfield. He is a prominent member of Grange Moor Working Men’s Club and a keen motorist. He has been agent for “The Daily Examiner” in the Grange Moor district since 1936.
