FOOTBALL OFFICIAL IN THE LIST
Official notification has been received that Staff-Q.M.S. Harry Richardson, of 26, Arnold Street, Birkby, has been posted as missing.
Staff-Q.M.S. Richardson was the first recruit for the 9th Army Workshop of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, formed by Lt.-Colonel Lievesley under the command of Major A. F. Hopkinson.
He is particularly well known in local Association football circles, for he has been connected in an official capacity with many phases of the game. After service in the Great War in the West Yorkshire Regiment and the York and Lancaster Regiment, he returned to Huddersfield, and was for some time a player with the Hillhouse Congregational team in the Affiliated Sunday Schools Football League. Afterwards he became a referee, served as secretary and president of the Huddersfield Referees’ Society, and was also associated with the West Riding County Referees’ Association.
When the Huddersfield and District Football League was re-formed in 1927-28 he became secretary, and occupied that position until 1932, when he was succeeded by his brother, Mr. Alfred Richardson, the present secretary of the League. He was also for many years a member of the executive committee of the Huddersfield and District Football Association, and for some years, too, has been a vice-president of the Huddersfield and District League.
Staff-Q.M.S. Richardson is also well-known at Leeds Road, where he has fulfilled several duties for the Town Club.
He is a member of the executive committee of the Social and Sports Association at Britannia Works, where he was employed.
Staff-Q.M.S. Richardson is married and has one daughter.
