Salendine Nook Sergeant Missing
Sergeant Albert Rimmer, 1st Field Squadron, Royal Engineers, who is posted as missing on June 20 “by unit only,” is a son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Rimmer, 18, Celandine Avenue, Salendine Nook. He was formerly an N.C.O. in the 7th Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, stationed at Milnsbridge. He joined the Regular Army five years ago and within two months was promoted lance-corporal. Five months after this promotion he became a full corporal. He was promoted sergeant three months ago. Before going abroad, Sergeant Rimmer acted as drill instructor at Chatham. He was in France for only about a month before he was posted missing.
Sergeant Rimmer comes of a Southport family, and on his father’s side is related to the famous bandsman, William Rimmer. He was married last New Year’s Day at Blackpool. His wife lives at 24, Egerton Road, Blackpool. In civil life he worked as a healder for Messrs. Hirst and Mallinson, Ltd., Milnsbridge. He attended St. Patricks School, Huddersfield.
Sergeant Rimmer’s father served as a despatch rider in the last war and lost a hand. He is now in the L.D.V.s.

LOCAL SOLDIERS NOW REPORTED PRISONERS
Sergeant A. G. Rimmer
Sergeant A. G. Rimmer, Royal Engineers, the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Rimmer, 18, Celandine Avenue, Salendine Nook, and the grandson of the late Mr. Albert and Mrs. Sheard, Crosland Road, previously reported missing, is now reported to be a prisoner of war. His wife. who now lives in Blackpool, has had a card from him.
Sergeant Rimmer was at one time employed at Messrs. Hirst and Mallinson, and was formerly in the 7th Batt. Duke of Wellington’s Regiment. He had been in the Army for the past five years.

BACK HOME FROM PRISON CAMPS
Salendine Nook Staff-Sergeant
Staff/Sgt, E. G. Rimmer, R.E. (26), son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Rimmer, 18, Celandine Avenue, Salendine Nook, has sent word of his arrival in England. He was liberated by the American Forces from Stalag 383, after being a prisoner since June, 1940. He joined the Army in 1935 and was captured at St. Valery. His wife and daughter live in Blackpool at present.
Staff/Sgt. Rimmer is a grandson of Mrs. and the late Mr. Albert Sheard, formerly of Crosland Road, Oakes. He was educated at St. Patrick’s School.5 July 2024 at 10:06 am #10984Added to Huddersfield Exposed:
