NEWS OF MEN IN THE FORCES
Driver Jack Storey, of Netherton
Intimation has been received from the War Office that Driver Jack Storey, of the Royal Signals is a prisoner of war in Germany. He went to France in April and was reported missing in July. Driver Storey, whose home is at Spring Terrace, Big Valley, Netherton, volunteered for the regular army a few weeks before the outbreak of war. He is twenty-one years of age.
Driver Storey was employed in civil life as a bus conductor for the Huddersfield Passenger Transport Department.

Two Years a Prisoner
The photograph is of Driver Jack Storey, Royal Corps of Signals, of 245 Spring Terrace, Big Valley, Netherton, and was taken at a prisoner of war camp in Germany, where he has been since he was captured two years ago. He was formerly employed by Mr Firth Jagger, hairdresser, of Moldgreen. His mother is serving as a sergeant in the A.T.S.

Tip Chargehand Stole Scrap Metal
A Huddersfield Corporation refuse tip chargehand, Jack Storey (39), of Delves Hill, Netherton, was fined £8 after pleading guilty to stealing from the tip scrap metal valued at £1.
Det.-Chief Insp. F. R. Noble (prosecuting) said that police officers in a patrol car saw Storey carrying a parcel walking along a road on March 1 at nearly midnight. They stopped the car, and accused placed the package on the grass verge and approached the officers. When asked what was in the parcel he replied, “Nothing.” He was taken to the police station. When a search was made of his home other scrap metal was found.
When charged, Storey said, “I understand. I have done a stupid thing.”

STOREY – On February 27, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Jack Storey, aged 79 years, of Birkby, late of Netherton, father of Annette and Jeanette, father-in-law of Melvyn and David, and grandfather of Emma, Samantha, Matthew and Dominic. Service and cremation will be held at Huddersfield Crematorium on Monday, March 8, at 11.30am. Will friends please accept this, the only intimation.
