Airman Who Comes of Huddersfield Family
Flight-Lieutenant Roderick Brook Learoyd, who has been awarded the V.C. for his bravery during a raid on the Dortmund-Ems canal when he dived on the target in spite of severe fire and brought his half-wrecked aircraft home and landed it without injury to any of his crew or further damage to the machine, comes of a Huddersfield family.
He is the son of Major R. B. Learoyd, of Littlestone, Kent, who served in the South African war, and the nephew of Mr. S. B. Learoyd, a principal of the firm of Messrs. Brook and Learoyd, lithographic printers and stationers, Chancery Lane, Huddersfield. He is grandson of the late Mr. Edwin Learoyd, who for many years lived at Ellerslie, Blacker Road, and was also associated with the firm of Messrs. Brook and Learoyd.
