Hello, I am carrying out research concerning soldier Irvin Pearson, killed during the fighting for the liberation of Airaines on September 1, 1944.
My searches haven’t yielded much results so far. I would like to know if it is possible to have a copy of the newspaper dated September 1, 1945 where an article appeared and where mention is made of Private Pearson’s cousins.

Franck24 August 2024 at 12:54 pm #11369I’ve not been able to spot any articles yet from 1944 mentioning Irvin’s death, but the “Roll of Honour” notice (1 Sep 1945) placed by his cousins is this:
Irvin is commemorated on the Roll of Honour at St. John’s Church, Golcar.
In 1921, young Irvin and his parents (Albert & Frances Varley Pearson) were living with Frances’ widowed mother Martha Quarmby at 91 Wood Top, Slaithwaite.

November 4th [1944]
Capt. R. Elliston-Walker.
2/KRRC
B.L.A.Dear Mrs Pearson.
Thank you for your letter and am very glad that I was at least able to set you mind at rest. Although I know where your son is buried, I am not allowed to tell you I am afraid, but if you write to the GRAVES REGISTRATION and INQUIRIES, G.H.Q. 2nd ECHELON (21st A.G.) OXFORD, ENGLAND, giving your son’s Number, Rank, and Regiment, they will give you all the information you need. His personal affects have all been sent off & should reach you very soon. If you would like to ask your other son in the R.A.S.C. to look me up if ever he is near me, I will gladly give him all the information & then perhaps he could visit Brother’s grave. The War has caused a lot of sorrow & hardship, and if we manage to achieve a lasting Peace, I hope that future generations won’t forget the terrible price that was paid for it. Please don’t hesitate to write to me, if there is any other help I can give you.
Very Sincerely Yours,
Robert Elliston-Walker24 August 2024 at 9:06 pm #11373<span class="Y2IQFc" lang="en">Thank you very much for these documents. I have the letter written by Captain Robert Elliston-Walker to Irvin's mother. I am in contact with Mr. Austin J. Ruddy.
