The Huddersfield and District Roll of Honour Project builds on the pioneering work of J. Margaret Stansfield, assisted by Ken Palmer and Philip Gledhill, who carried out over 30 years of research into the local men and women who served and died in (or as a result of) the First World War. Stansfield’s research was published in 2014 by the University of Huddersfield Press under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.
The aim of this project is to build on Stansfield’s work in order to create:
David Verguson has kindly allowed his detailed research into individuals linked to the Lindley area to be added to the site.
Many of the local history groups in the area conducted research into those who served in the First World War and we’d be more than happy to integrate their research into the site, particularly if it is currently only available within a commercial web site, such as Facebook.

Much of the current content focuses on the First World War, but the scope of the project includes other conflicts and we’re particularly keen to add pages to honour those who served or died in the Second World War.
