Huddersfield Exposed is currently running on MediaWiki 1.35.x, which is the most recent long-term support (LTS) version of the software. An issue with the custom skin used by the site means that moving to 1.36 or 1.37 will require a rewrite of the skin, so my intention is to remain on 1.35.x for the time being, but to plan for a move to the next LTS version (1.39) in 2023. A secondary issue is that a new LTS release of the web server’s OS in now available.
It’s early stages, but here’s a rough plan of what will need doing to complete the move:
evaluate the most suitable OS for the future hosting of the site
deploy a new web server with MediaWiki 1.37 and migrate a copy of the live site data
evaluate existing MediaWiki skins to determine whether a custom skin is still needed
for each of the current site’s customisations, evaluate if improvements can be made
