The aim of this project is to identify individuals named in issues of the Huddersfield newspapers (1939-1946) and also those named on local memorials. By using a message board, it’s hoped others might contribute their own research to help build up detailed information for each individual.
Although the aim is to create a Second World War Roll of Honour for the local area (i.e. to extend J. Margaret Stansfield’s 30 year research into the First World War), there’ll also be entries for individuals who survived the war (e.g. PoWs, presumed missing, etc) whose name appears in a newspaper article.
We particularly welcome research into any individuals with a “needs research” tag.
Notes…
Topic titles for individuals should have the following format:
…for example:
If an age is given, then it reflects what was stated in the newspaper article. Ideally this will then be converted into a lifespan.
Names appended with a tick (✓) have been added to Huddersfield Exposed.
